Soccer Aid players put cone on Dermot O’Leary’s head and dance around in hilarious scenes

Dermot O’Leary had an eventful start to his coverage of Soccer Aid on Sunday night as the presenter found himself ambushed by a group of celebrity football players live on air.

As the annual UNICEF fundraiser switched from Old Trafford to the London Stadium, Dermot was joined by former England international and Strictly star Alex Scott who be his presenting partner for the charity event.

Yet before the pair could get stuck into introducing the broadcast, that will see England take on players from the rest of the world to raise vital funds to support Unicef’s work, Dermot was jumped on by a load of the players from the Soccer Aid teams mere minutes into the broadcast.

Some of the famous faces included in the spontaneous tomfoolery included Olympic icon Sir Mo Farah, ex TOWIE star Mark Wright, Love Island ‘s Kem Cetinay and Line of Duty actor Martin Compston as they pounced on the presenter who valiantly continued to try and say his lines – even as they placed a cone on his head.

Warning the stars not to swear, they began chanting “Oh Dermot O’Leary!” Much to the amusement of fans at home and Alex herself, who couldn’t quite believe what she was seeing.

Trying not to laugh, Alex continued with the broadcast, saying: “50,000 delirious fans, but I should say already delirious players,” before, the players then approached her, leading the star to add: “This is the biggest fundraiser.”

Trying to claw back a little control, ever the professional Dermot continued to soldier on despite the interruption as he looked straight down the camera lens and interjected: “And that’s where you come in,” before going on to explain to viewers at home how they could donate to raise as much money as possible for UNICEF on the night.
