Actress Kangana Ranaut has been heaping praises on filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri’s latest film The Kashmir Files. In a video posted on Instagram on Tuesday, Kangana thanked Agnihotri for making a great film that has “washed Bollywood’s sins away”. She urged the public to go watch the film in theatres.
Kangana also took to Instagram stories to call The Kashmir Files “the first successful film in theatres post pandemic”. “The Kashmir Files is the first successful and profitable film in theatres post pandemic… I am telling you all this because movie mafia and their chatikaar and bikau media won’t tell you… No one from the industry will applaud or appreciate it so I am doing my bit,” she wrote.
Bollywood actors like Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal, Yami Gautam had praised the film and Kher’s performance. Yami Gautam, who is married to filmmaker Aditya Dhar, said: “Being married to a Kashmiri Pandit, I know first hand of the atrocities that this peace-loving community has gone through. But majority of the nation is still unaware. It took us 32 years and a film to get to know the truth. Please watch and support #TheKashmirFiles. Huge respect to @AnupamPKher sir, @vivekagnihotri and the entire team.”
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta, who said he did not agree with Agnihotri on many things, congratulated the filmmaker for the film and its success. tweeted, “Congratulations @vivekagnihotri for #TheKashmirFiles. You have succeeded outside the system, on your own terms. Ideologically or otherwise I might disagree with your views and films but as a colleague I must commend you.”
The Kashmir Files, based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley in 1990, is written and directed by Agnihotri and stars Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi. “I wanted to make a sensitive film that has universal resonance… The whole world loves this film, the sensibilities of this film are international. I wanted to show the truth to the whole world,” Agnihotri had said.
