Lindsay Lohan shared a major Mean Girls revelation in a video for Vogue. The star is beloved for her role in the classic film as new girl Cady Heron, but Lindsay had an entirely different role for herself in mind when she auditioned.
Taking a look back at some of her most memorable fashion moments, Lindsay recalled her days on the Mean Girls set. “The story behind me playing Cady in Mean Girls is actually really unknown by a lot of people,” she said. “I wanted to play Regina because I’d just come off of Freaky Friday and I really wanted to play a pretty normal girl.”
She continued, saying, “I wanted to have a different kind of role than just the damaged teenager.” As Lindsay reveals, the film’s director Mark Waters and Tina Fey “were insistent” that she play Cady, and thus, the rest was history.
Reflecting more on her time in Mean Girls, Lindsay shared that “everyone was jealous” of Cady’s initial wardrobe, as her time pre-Plastics came with jeans and sneakers. She also admitted that she did make some styling decisions on her other roles, including choosing to wear Hard Candy nail polish in Freaky Friday.
Although Lindsay did love what she wore in Mean Girls, there is one fashion era she’s admittedly not that proud of. Looking back on one of her 2002 ‘fits, the actor shared that Avril Lavigne was her style inspiration, but when it came to a DIY of her looks, it didn’t exactly translate. She questioned, “Why was I wearing flip flops and a scarf?” She added, “I love Avril Lavigne, but it was not working on a daily basis as I can see.”
