Oscars 2022: “West Side Story” Star Rachel Zegler Invited as Presenter After Public Outcry

Update (March 23, 2022):

Looks like West Side Story‘s Rachel Zegler might make it to the Oscars 2022 ceremony after all — the actor really manifested that “last-minute miracle.”

While replying to a fan comment, Zegler revealed on social media on March 20 that she was not initially invited to the 94th Academy Awards ceremony. Zegler claimed she had “tried it all” to get an invite, but ultimately failed to secure a ticket. The announcement made headlines, sparking a wave of outrage online from fans of the actor, whose film is nominated for a total of seven awards at this year’s show.

Now, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has reportedly invited Zegler to present at the ceremony, notes The Hollywood Reporter. According to THR‘s sources, Zegler’s schedule is in the process of being modified to allow her to attend the ceremony. She is currently in London filming the live-action remake of Disney’s Snow White, in which she holds the titular role. Neither Zegler or the Academy has confirmed yet whether Zegler will indeed present at the ceremony, or attend.

The Oscars will take place this upcoming Sunday, March 27, 2022.

Previously (March 21, 2022):

The Oscars 2022 are right around the corner, taking place on Sunday, March 27 — and it looks like West Side Story star Rachel Zegler won’t be attending the ceremony.

On March 20, Zegler revealed on Instagram that she hadn’t received an invite to the Oscars, despite West Side Story being nominated for seven awards. Zegler didn’t make an announcement or a formal post about not receiving an invitation, but fans were quick to notice a comment the actor left in one of her most recent posts on the social app, uploaded on March 20.

In the carousel, the actor showed off some of her memories from the last four months including the Vivienne Westwood gown she wore to the BAFTAs. “Can’t wait to see what you’ll be wearing on Oscar night,” a fan commented on the post, which prompted Zegler’s earnest reply: “I’m not invited so sweatpants and my boyfriend’s flannel.” (ICYMI: the first trailer for West Side Story was unveiled at last year’s Oscars).
