Shawn Mendes Spoke About Split from Camila Cabello — See Video

Shawn Mendes reflected on navigating life after the amicable ending to his relationship with Camila Cabello. The pair had been dating for two years and announced their breakup back in November 2021.

In a Twitter video posted on Friday, March 18, Shawn revealed that the music he’s currently working on reflects some of what he’s felt after a breakup. “A lot of the things that also is like, resonating in the lyric for me is like, oh, f*ck, you know, you don’t realize, like, when you’re like, breaking up with someone, you like think it’s the right thing to do, you don’t realize all this sh*t that comes after it,” he said.

He continued, saying, “Like, who do I call when I’m like, in a panic attack? Who do I call when I’m like, f*cking, on the edge?” Looking at the camera, he added, “I think that’s the reality that kinda I am on my own now after like, finally I am actually on my own…that’s my reality, you know.”

Shawn’s reflection come shortly after Camila addressed the split for the first time. Appearing on New Music Daily with Zane Lowe, she said, ““I f*cking love Shawn. And I feel like there is literally nothing but love for him.”

She admitted that when the pair were together, her focus “was just how can I live a happy life and be in a healthy, happy relationship? I was doing therapy a lot. My focus really has shifted. And even now while I’m in promo mode, honestly, if I’m not having fun, what’s the f*cking point?”

Furthering addressing the changes in her life, she said, ”I think as I get older, the priorities shift. And I feel like that was that way for both of us. Because we both started so young too, we’re really learning how to be healthy adults. And that sometimes means not having your number one focus be your career. And that’s okay.”
