Keke Palmer faces off against unknown forces in the first NOPE trailer. The newest film from director Jordan Peele doesn’t premiere until this summer, but the trailer was released on Sunday morning ahead of a Super Bowl commercial airing.
The movie, debuting in theaters on July 22, stars Keke, along with Daniel Kaluuya and Steven Yeun. Variety reports that Barbie Ferreira, Brandon Perea and Michael Wincott have also been cast in the film.
This trailer opens with a look at Keke and Daniel’s characters. The two appear to be filming something and Keke talks about her place at the Haywood Ranch, which she notes is the “only Black-owned horse trainers in Hollywood.”
All seems normal enough as the trailer then cuts to a scene of Keke dancing and Daniel standing outside with a horse. However, some seriously dark clouds soon arrive, the power fades, and a set of bright lights flashes in the distance.
We don’t get a full glimpse at what that something waiting in the darkness is, but Steven’s character is later captured looking up at the sky and Keke ends the trailer being thrown into the air. Her screams are the last thing we hear before the movie’s title flashes on the screen. The film’s official description offers little in the way of details, only noting that “residents in a lonely gulch of inland California who bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery.”
Jordan previously released and garnered critical acclaim with his films Us and Get Out. Get Out broke numerous box office records and was awarded an Oscar in 2018 for Best Original Screenplay.
