Boost for Man City as PSG star fails fitness test ahead of game – Without two midfielders for CL clash

Manchester City have been handed a boost ahead of their clash with Paris Saint Germain this evening as Marco Verratti has been ruled out of the game.

L’Equipe report that the Italian star has been ruled out of the game with a quadriceps injury he picked up in training on the eve of the game.

PSG’s staff had waited before ruling him out completely as they had hoped that with time he might be able to make tonight’s fixture, but that has not proven to be case.

Since this morning, it was apparent he would not be fit, and the club were ‘not really under any illusion’ about him being in the team.

His absence is a major concern for PSG in what is a huge clash with Manchester City, given the attacking role he plays and the ‘fear’ he inspires in opponents.

It’s even more of a problem because of the absence of Georginio Wijnaldum, who has also been ruled out of the game courtesy of a pain in the back of his knee that stopped him in training on Tuesday.

It was later deemed starting him would be a ‘significant risk’ for the French side, and it is likely he will be replaced by Ander Herrera in the starting lineup.

Manchester City won’t mind; of course, they’ve been handed a significant boost for a game that they desperately need to win if they are to top the group heading into the knockout stages.
