Who will get the Manchester United job?

Leicester City’s players are “not even thinking” about Brendan Rodgers leaving despite links with the Manchester United job.

The Northern Irishman is among the names touted as the next Red Devils boss following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking.

But Ayoze Perez, a man signed by Rodgers, insists the players at the King Power Stadium are not contemplating the exit of their manager.

Rodgers returned to the Premier League in 2019 following a successful spell as Celtic boss and continues to impress.

At Leicester, with a budget that is dwarfed by their rivals, the 48-year-old has delivered the FA Cup and successive fifth place finishes, which has put him firmly in the shop window.

However Perez and his teammates and not expecting any changes in the dugout.

He said: “We are not even thinking about that possibility (Rodgers leaving). What he has shown us, he is totally focused on where we can improve.

“We are not thinking about anything else, not him either. We are really focused here.

“He is trying to make us think about the basics (to improve form).”

United have placed Michael Carrick in charge initially whilst they contemplate their next move.

He led the Red Devils to a 2-0 win over Villarreal on Tuesday night, which ensured qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League.

Ernesto Valverde is being considered for the post until the end of the season whilst Mauricio Pochettino is a long-term target.

The Argentine, currently in charge at PSG, was quizzed on a potential Premier League return, but refused to entertain the idea.

Midseason negotiations can prove challenging, which is why United may wait until the summer, when Rodgers could be pursued should they wish.

The Leicester boss remained tight lipped on any speculation linking him with the Old Trafford hotseat, insisting he cannot control such talk.

He said: “I can’t really comment on it because it’s something that’s not real. I’m here as the Leicester City manager. I’m proud to be here, privileged to be here and fully committed to the players, the club, the ownership.

“That’s about it really. All the other noise around that is something we can’t control.

“(The noise) doesn’t frustrate me personally.”

Rodgers has a contract with the Foxes for several more years, but may want another crack at a job with one of England’s elite.

He led Liverpool for three years, narrowly missing out on the title back in 2014, before he was sacked just over a year later.
