Chelsea defender set to sign contract extension – Agreement now ‘imminent’

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva is signing a contract extension with the club, according to reports from Brazil.

UOL columnist Bruno Andrade writes that ‘the first contacts’ for a new deal have already started, and the agreement ‘is imminent’.

Chelsea are said to be willing to give Silva a one-year extension. Even though they’re ‘not used to offering renewals’ to players of that age, he’s said to be one of the ‘names of trust’ for manager Thomas Tuchel.

And speaking to people close to him, the 37-year-old has shown his desire to stay in England.

It’s pointed out that the player wants to be in the World Cup next year, and featuring in Premier League and in the Champions League has a ‘signification weight on his individual goal’.

UOL points out that Thiago Silva remains a ‘dream’ for Fluminense, a club for whom he was successful in Brazil and keeps a good relationship with.

Now they claim that his return continues to be on the cards, but that should now only happen after the summer of 2023.

Silva joined Chelsea on a free move from Paris Saint Germain in 2020, and he already has 48 appearances for the club, including a Champions League title in that record.
